Nails need fresh air to stay healthy; ah! This is a myth which has surrounded every girls head. They need nail paint coating to remain healthy and it also prevents them from breaking unusually. Everybody would agree with me for this- if it comes to your face, you have many anti-ageing creams, UV-shielding sunscreens, hydrating creams, wrinkle-reducing serums, anything and everything possible to cure ageing is done by us. But when it comes to our hands, we hardly have time for it and carelessness can highlight ageing before our 30s. And we don’t have a youth preserving plan for the delicate hands and nails of our hands, it will be dead giveaway of our age. Don’t let your hands give you away your age!
- Age spots:
The funny thing about age spots is that they actually don’t have to do anything with age, according to dermatologists age spots are the result of sun exposure. The sun-worshippers may get them earlier, who’ve accumulated more sun exposure than their younger counterparts. To avoid these spots caused due to sun stroke, dermatologists suggest wearing hand gloves and before heading out each day one should apply hand cream with SPF 30.
- Stained nails:
If your nails have turned yellow or brown, first of all consult the doctor to know about the fungal infection. If doctor says it’s not a fungal infection, you can relax because decolourisation is the result of wearing dark nail paints or psoriasis medication. To get rid of this decolourisation run your nails with a lemon wedge or soaking in denture cleaner for 15-20 minutes to remove the stain.
- Brittle nails:
When our nails are exposed to water or chemical, seasonal weather changes lead to brittle, breaking nails. Mostly genetics is also the reason for weak nails. Consult the doctor and take the right supplement of 2.5mg dose of B vitamin biotin which will improve nail strength and reduces brittleness.
- File and Shape:
While choosing nail file, go for crystal glass files. Using a rough nail file can weaken your nails, leads to splitting and peeling. Crystal glass files have superfine grit to produce a clean, chip free nail edge. Use a fine emery board to shape nail tips only-filing the sides weakens nails. Keep nails no longer than ¼ inch beyond your fingertips for a more youthful appearance.
Cuticles; stop snipping them as they protect the nail’s growth centre. Cutting cuticles can lead to nail ridging and thinning. Instead of cutting or snipping them, moisturise them and push it back. If you don’t have a cuticle pusher, you can improvise one with a pencil eraser wrapped in tissue.
Nail breakage could be stopped by B vitamin biotin supplements and this could be very much useful for those who are swimmers or in the summer months are very much exposed to water. Research shows that a daily dose of the nutrient increases nail thickness by 25%, making nails less apt to split and tear.
